Fort Mason Craft Show Rocks!

The "Celebration of Craftswomen" 2-weekend show at Herbst Pavillion, Fort Mason Center, San Francisco, is in full swing. Ten Phoebes, Mary, Zanaib, Wanda, VonZetta, Kelly, Suzanne, Colleen, Daisy, Bonnie and Donna P, shared a booth for the opening weekend, Nov. 27 and 28. Initially intending to only have a booth one weekend, the Phoebes were given first choice at a cancellation for the second weekend, Dec. 4 and 5. The show promoters were impressed by the amount of interest and enthusiasm in our booth expressed by shoppers. If you couldn't make it to the show last weekend, you still have a chance to see the exhibits this weekend. Go to http://www.celebrationofcraftswomen.org/ to obtain a $2 off admission coupon. The show is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Phoebes have so far collected four pages of names of people interested in either our free beginning doll-making classes or in attending our meetings. We are so excited and looking forward to meeting these aspiring doll makers.

The next Phoebe Associate Meeting will be held January 20, 7 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club on Marina in San Leandro.

The January Challenge will be "The Masculine Challenge." Make a doll or piece of art that is male...any age, any size, any style.

The January Exchange will be "Hearts." Make a small item using hearts as a theme. What will it be? A pin cushion, a collection of heart charms, a necklace, a little book, a paperweight... make whatever is fun for you!

Don't forget to check out the Phoebe Snowman Window Exhibit at "The Book Shop" on B Street in Hayward. The exhibit runs the entire month of December. Let it snow!

What Are We Brewing Up Now?

Happy Halloween!

Don't miss the Associate and Member Joint Meeting on Thursday, October 21 at 7 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club on Marina Blvd., San Leandro. Our once-a-year Silent Auction will take place that night... always a fun event and great opportunity to bid on items a Phoebe would love to own! And, as always, there is sure to be exciting and inspiring "show and tell" dolls and artistic creations to rev up our passion for artistic endeavors. Oh, and don't forget that yearly dues and due and payable now.
I hope you all are participating in the October Exchange (a doll to wear) and the October Challenge (a snowman doll for the December bookstore window). Don't forget to bring those items to the meeting.
The Christine Shively 2-day cloth doll class will be starting on the 21st and finishing up on the 22nd. Hope we get to see some "dolls-in-progress" also.

Our Alameda County Fair Event Was A Huge Success

The Phoebes' annual make it and take it community outreach event, "Make a Doll with the Kids" at the Alameda County Fair, was once again a smashing success. The event took place on Saturday, July 10, in the Fiber and Food Building (Hall of Commerce). The Phoebes have been hosting this event since 2005. It is a free event for all ages and it continues to bring joy to all who love crafting. During the year prior to each event, the Phoebes gather to make and stuff hundreds of doll bodies and mold doll faces made of clay, then donate boxes of embellishments. Participants can choose from ribbons, trims, leather, fur, sequins, fabrics, feathers, buttons, charms, etc. to create their own one-of-a-kind doll to take home and love. Phoebes are on hand to assist and man the glue guns.

What a great day! You can tell by the happy faces that everyone was thrilled—kids, moms, dads and the people from the fair. They can't wait to have us back again next year.

Thanks to all the Phoebes who contributed their time and materials to make so many people happy.
Thank you Shiela for storing and bringing all the "treasures"—you make it so much easier for the rest of us. Thank you Beth for bring Shirley and for the great homemade cookies! Thanks VonZetta for the bright and cheerful flyers. They are great advertisement for our club. And, thanks to the patient husbands who lugged, toted and carried. We appreciate you all more than you know.

One of the many husbands, boyfriends and fathers who enjoyed making a spectacular and creative doll.

The happy faces tell the story!

Remember to check this blog for date and time of our event next year. Bring your families and have a great time!

The Phoebes were invited to provide a special exhibit of our dolls. Phoebes who were at the reception on July 17 know for a fact that our wonderful table full of dolls attracted a lot of attention and got rave reviews from the other attendees. Phoebe Window Display at The Book Shop

The Flying Phoebes have done it again!
Thanks to Sharon's gift for conceiving fabulous displays, Kelly's acrobatic skills in putting everything in its place, Donna and Bett's critical input, and Shirley's sign delivery, The Book Shop at 1007 B Street in Hayward has another fantastic window display to amuse and attract patrons. The display went up on July 1 and will remain for the month of July.
The photos never do the displays justice since there is no way to get around the reflection and glare on the glass. You have to drop by and see it yourself! We have outdone ourselves.

A huge thanks goes out to all of you who have contributed your wonderful dolls and items to add to the display. The Book Shop wanted us to let everyone know there is a "B Street Party" to be held on Thursday, July 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Our dolls are sure to attract a lot of attention. Unfortunately, that is the same day as our class and meeting, but try to make it over to B Street whenever you can and tell all your friends to check it out. The feedback from passers-by while we were putting up the display was so positive. Good job!

If you have dolls in the display, it will be taken down on Saturday, July 31, between 10 and 11 a.m. You can pick up your dolls during that time.

April 15 Associate Meeting

Hello Phoebes,
If you missed the April Associate meeting held at the Boys and Girls Club in San Leandro on April 15, you missed an evening of colorful dolls and projects, information on upcoming events, and the happy faces of our Phoebe family members who attended and joined together in finishing a bunch of stump dolls for our July 10 outreach day at the Alameda County Fair. It was wonderful to have elinor peace bailey visiting from Oregon to blow us all out of the water with her parade of fabulous dolls.
The exchanges, challenges, and the "show and tell" dolls made by Phoebe members and associates were fantastic. They were proof of the great amount of imagination, craftmanship, and passion for artistic expression that resides in all of you!
