May 7 (Sunday), Day-time Phoebe Meeting at Anne Klocko's House. She will be demonstrating the floral caning technique used with polymer clay and in decorative glass-making. In the morning we will meet in the Nick Cave Exhibit on the Stanford campus and then again for lunch at a nearby café, followed by the meeting at Anne's.
Noodle Night Fun
For the second time we scheduled a meeting that included a pasta dinner and a challenge to make something with the long "noodle" strips of fabric we received at the previous meeting. The response was positive and members brought an assortment of pasta sauces or desserts to share. The pasta was supplied, along with a salad and beverages. It was a great feast! Thank you all for the delicious food. The meeting resumed and we had the opportunity to show the items we had crafted from the fabric strips.
Jennifer brought four pipe cleaner dolls that were dressed using the noodle strips. Love them!
Harlene brought two striking necklaces of knitted wire that were stuffed with colorful fabric noodles. Truly beautiful!
Mary created a beautiful rose from her cloth strips.
Zanaib, the "Card Queen," used her noodles in various ways to embellish lovely greeting cards.
Donna brought one of the rolled fabric bead African collar necklaces she has made using fabric strips.
Enrichment
Another highlight of the evening was the enrichment session Rosie conducted. She brought 35mm slides and various images, papers and embellishments and showed us how to make decorated frames as shown below. The possibilities of creation are endless and the process is addicting. The finished frames can be used as jewelry components, making decorated boxes, or added to cards and one-dimensional art projects. Thank you Rosie! We are thrilled to have a new way to make our art truly unique (and use some of those slides we have around the house.)
Daisy is still feverishly making cats for the Girl Scout gathering. The girls will be divided into groups, each represented by one of the cats, which will be attached to a pole. Each cat is one of a kind, and Daisy is doing what she does best—creating unique cloth sculptures that capture your heart.
Mary received this cheery Tilda angel doll from Suzanne. It was her gift from the Christmas exchange.
Sally brought the doll she is completing for a doll costuming challenge Barbara created for some of her friends. So petite and cute.
One of Sue's many talents is creating whimsical faces from polymer clay. These are nestled in sea shells and a seed pod. How clever!
Suzanne's guest and dear friend, Carole, who is visiting from Oregon, came to the meeting and brought some of her beautiful projects. A quilting and fabric artist, Carole made the two fabulous purses above.
Above is a potholder and finger pin cushions. Beside them is a wonderful figure Kathy made out of recycled items to give Suzanne for the Christmas exchange.
Shawn brought some of the felt items she has created. Above is a purse and below, a cleverly constructed felted hat made with roving.
