Ideas for Glamorous Accessories—What Fun We Have!

Are you wondering what to wear to that upcoming special occasion without buying something new? Harlene's enrichment session showed us exactly how to solve that problem. She demonstrated how easy it is to make a ruffled accessory by gathering a bit of beautiful fabric and ribbon and quickly turning them into a chic accessory. She has made many of them and has successfully sold them at various art and crafts shows. Now we know the secret! Thank you, Harlene, for a great idea.

Calendar
July 8 and August 12 Meetings, (Saturday), 11:30 A.M. at Marcella's. Drop-in Social Get-together will start at 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. Business Meeting will start at 1:30 P.M. Jennifer and Caroline will begin a two-month enrichment project that you will not want to miss. We will be painting and stamping beautiful designs on canvas tote bags with Luminaire fabric paints of brilliant hues, including rich metallics. Watch for more pre-class details.
June is a busy time of the year with so many occasions like vacations, graduations and Father's Day taking place. Attendance was low at the meeting, but those who did attend brought many fabulous creations to share.

The Buckle Challenge
Geri had challenged us to make an item using a fancy or unusual buckle. Five items were shared, and we hope to see more at the next meeting. It's so much fun to see the different direction each artist will take.
Harlene's brilliant blue butterfly was the shining glory on her gold buckle pin.
Donna chose silk yoyos, a polymer clay hand that she sculpted, and various bits of jewels and metal to add to her vintage mother of pearl buckle necklace.
Geri made an adorable Christmas decoration by using a paper shoe she made (a la Barbara's December enrichment), which she then embellished with colorful Christmas items and her silver belt buckle. It's a perfect addition for her Christmas tree this December.
Marcella scoured her vast collection of wonderful things and found these vintage buckles. She used them to make a beautiful, one-of-a-kind bracelet.
Shawn is also well-known for amazing and unusual collections. She added interesting bits and pieces to this beautiful gold buckle and created an exquisite and unique scarf ring!
Show and Tell!
Linda took an on-line doll class from Leslie O"Leary and created this adorable bunny doll. She then entered it in the County Fair and won a ribbon. Congratulations, Linda!
Shawn discovered this amazing garment and couldn't pass up. It is basically a tunic decorated with silver fabric strips and metal bell-shaped beads. Wearing it would certainly make one feel like Roman or Greek goddess.
Suzanne R has completed the beading on her purse necklace from Rosie's challenge. Her next step is to attach it to a red cord.
And, she is still having fun making greeting cards.
As a docent at the Oakland Zoo, she loves to use pictures of animals and birds.
In response to Harlene's journal challenge, Suzanne R brought these two journals that she is currently working on.
I predict there will be even more to come!
As an homage to the late Tina Turner, Donna brought a flat doll she had made some time ago, and also included her Cher doll.

This is a small watercolor Donna recently painted.
Suzanne D, we are so overjoyed that you have rejoined the Phoebes! And, that the recent journal challenge has inspired you to revisit some of the amazing journals you have created during previous journal challenges led by Roxanne Padget and Deb Shattil. The cloth cover on this one is beautiful!
Now that many of us are currently working on new journals, I'm sure everyone will be all the more inspired by these photos of Suzanne's creations.

Featuring the Journal Challenge!

This wonderful photo of a young elinor was found among our Phoebe archives. We continue to honor and celebrate her lifetime achievements and inspiration. Watch for the next issue of the Phoebe Newsletter, which will feature some of her many works of art Phoebe members have made or collected over the decades.
Calendar
June 10, (Saturday), 11:30 A.M. at Marcella's. Drop-in Social Get-together will start at 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. Business Meeting will start at 1:30 P.M. Harlene will be leading us in a surprise enrichment. Geri's buckle challenge is due at this meeting.

Amazing response to the Journal/Bookcover Challenge!

Betts included copies of old French papers, vintage French graphics, stamps, buttons and ribbons to decorate her pages and book covers.

Bonnie used paper, fabrics, buttons and various handmade motifs on hers.

Caroline glued down a background of gold wallpaper, on which she added a "book doll" created by using an Elise Peoples flat doll pattern.
Harlene's book covers were created from wallpaper and lace she found at FabMo, and fabric flowers—resulting in a "big book" and a "baby book."

This is the cover of a personal journal Donna continues to work on. The background is a Styrofoam black mono print over watercolor washes.

Above and below are two of the pages she has completed using a mixture of acrylic paints, watercolor sketches, and stamped designs.

This is the cover of one she made some time ago using a graphic cut from a calendar.

And the cover of another one which features a photo of her mother on gift wrap paper, a vintage German book page, and ribbon and lace.

This cover was painted with acylics and embellished with paper motifs, including some from an antique French book page.

Jennifer's book cover is decorated with a paper with numbers, and she impressed us with the book spine she created using fabric, glue, and Heat n Bond.

Marcella's book cover is a homage to elinor, and was created using vintage papers, prints, and art elinor has published over the years.

Sally's book cover was made using a crumpled brown paper bag for the background, which was embellished with some her original drawings, washi tape, and bits and pieces of ephemera. She reminded us that washi tape is not permanent, and glue should be added during its application.

Sharon's book cover is made using layers of fabrics with fringed edges and appliques with decorative stitching and fabric prints.

Shawn's booklet is made using layers of colored papers—some with graphic designs.

Sue's book cover features a lovely watercolor she recently painted.

Suzanne D shared one of the many amazing books and journals she made that were inspired by a Roxanne Padget Phoebe workshop she took in 2003.
Challenge!

Anne brought her completed woven fibers from the demonstration Jennifer presented at the last Phoebe meeting.

It was wonderful that Rosie was in town and able to join our meeting. She shared with us some of her recent beautiful alcohol ink paintings.

Donna shared a recent watercolor painting of flowers.
