An Enjoyable Day Spent Creating a Book

Enrichment led by Sharon was the highlight of the day.

Calendar

October 14 Party. We will be meeting for our annual
Anniversary Celebration at the Christ Episcopal Church, 1700 Santa Clara Ave, Alameda. Please bring a sweet or savory dish for the potluck dinner, as well as your own plate and utensils, so that we may be more eco-friendly toward our environment.
Daisy will be presenting a brief enrichment session about painting. Since Harlene was unable to attend our last meeting, the challenge of making something representing Fall/Leaves/Nature will be due at this meeting.

November 11 Meeting, (Saturday), 11:30 A.M. at Marcella's. Drop-in Social Get-together will start at 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. Business Meeting will start at 1:30 P.M. Guest artist Deb Shatal will be leading enrichment—possibly on "Sketchy Stuff" or another topic to be determined.

Enrichment

Sharon handed out to each of us a book she had assembled using brown paper bags and white envelopes. She also supplied some printed graphics to be used as embellishments. We each had been instructed to bring 4 sheets of colorful scrapbook paper, a ruler, scissors or paper cutter, glue, and paper clips. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the challenge of creating their own unique booklet. We are taking the books home to complete gluing on the page covers and embellishments and will be bringing our finished books to the October Phoebe Anniversary Celebration. It will be exciting to see the variety of designs.

Show and Tell

Daisy's newest fantistic cloth-sculptered bird was created by using a beautiful array of fabrics and cloth embellishments.
This cute needle-sculpted bunny was created by Geri when she took a workshop conducted by well-known doll artist, Jo Ann Pinto. Both the doll and the dress are beautifully made!
Sally recently traveled to a dairy farm near Bristol, England, where she attended a "slow sewing" workshop and created this lovely fabric collage entirely by hand stitching.
And more!
And, another one!
She also shared some of her wonderful hand painted faces, which I think she plans to incorporate into her paper book. Check in next month!
Barbara also traveled to the UK to participate in the "slow sewing" class, but she created this lovely fabric collage and the one below using glue instead of stitching. Very beautiful!

And, she made another exquisite "traveling doll.' So very dainty! This one has her own matching traveling case.
We were so happy to have Colleen join us this month and she led off this segment with a display of her colorful quilt.
She recently signed up for a painting class using watercolor techniques like the ones above.
And, also painted these two beautiful paintings using alcohol inks. Really well done!
