Stump Dolls and Lace in February

The February meeting at Marcella's was well attended. With the Castro Valley Library  "make and take" event  approaching in April, Phoebe hands were busy. Caroline, Suzanne and Daisy worked hard at stuffing and sewing up stump dolls to contribute while the business meeting was underway.

Calendar of Events

March 21, (Saturday), 1 to 4 P.M., Phoebe Meeting at Sally's. All remaining stump dolls for the Library will be collected at this time.

April 18, (Saturday), 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M., Make and Take at the Castro Valley Library. Our exhibit of flat and stump dolls will be on display there for the entire month of April.

April 25, (Saturday), 1 to 4 P.M., Collage Workshop with Sharon at the San Leandro Senior Center.

May 16, (Saturday), Field Trip and Phoebe Meeting, The field trip will be to the Santa Clara University Museum exhibit featuring fiber artist Stephany Metz. We will have lunch at a local restaurant, followed by the meeting at Anne's home.

Enrichment
Sue wowed us with her Mokuba Freelace enrichment presentation. It is a water soluble product that enables the stabilizing of fibers and bits of fabric into assemblages that can be randomly stitched together to create light and airy "lace."  Once top-stitched, it is submerged in water where it dissolves, leaving wonderfully light and airy "fabrics" and embellishments. Thank you, Sue, for introducing us to new possibilities using this product. It is available at florilequim.com.

Challenge

The challenge this month was to make an original stump doll. From left to right are Marcella's mermaid, Bonnie's pink pastel lady with buttons, and Sue's sculpted face doll with a pocket.
Also, Marcella's classy black and white lady, Daisy's girl with dancing legs, and a sweet little green lady.

And, the flower garden trio of cuties made by Harlene!
Show and Tell
Jo is a master quilter and very involved with the East Bay Heritage Quilters, who will be exhibiting at the Craneway Pavilion on March 21 and 22. She brought two samples of the beautiful needle painted work she has stitched using beautiful thread colors to "paint" her designs.
Donna recently answered the Pleasanton Senior Center watercolor group's challenge to all to paint 3"x3" squares—to be collaged on a Valentines Day poster and displayed in the lobby. Above and below are the 6 she contributed.

Rosie recently finished two more potholders using her favorite chicken themed printed fabric. She has used the last of it, but if anyone has this print and would like to share, or sees it in a fabric store, please let her know,

The print certainly makes striking quilted potholders!

Sue created this beautiful one-of-kind doll with a fabulous costume and wig. Amazing!

Thanks to all for your participation!
